Mini Halloween Pumpkins

Fine, they’re not pumpkins. They’re gourds. And as McSweeney says – It’s decorative gourd season, motherf*%#$@=!

Picked these up at S&R. I thought color-blocked vegetables looked cute. But later on they just seemed a bit too phallic! Haha. But what the hell, let’s just stick some googley eyes on them, shall we?

We’ll be making a simple candle and gourd decor.

What you need:

  1. Decorative gourds
  2. Googley eyes
  3. Candles
  4. Washi tape and toothpicks, and/or string and pins
  5. Blu-tack
  6. Plate (optional)
  7. White glue, scissors

Step 1: Glue eyes to your gourds. You can opt to draw faces with a permanent marker if you don’t have googley eyes.

Step 2: Make your “Happy Halloween” washi tape flags. For the word “Happy” I made bunting with the string, washi tape and Dymo-printed letters. You can hang these across two candles using sewing pins. Stick the pins into the wax and wind the ends of the string around it and push into the wax to secure.

“Boo” and “Halloween” are washi tape flags on the toothpicks. These will be the arms of your gourds – break them in half, but don’t pull apart. Stick it into the gourds.

Step 3: Arrange your candles and gourds on the plate. Use Blu-tack to make your gourds stand. Light up the candles and you’re done!

Make sure to keep this away from flammable items, and put out the candles before going to bed. A safer alternative would be the battery-operated candles. Happy Halloween!
